Wajir High School won in both soccer and basketball during the recent Wajir East school games. The games were organized by Kenya Secondary Schools Association in partnership with Siyad Foundation, aimed at promoting sports and unity in students.
Tournament Highlights
- Wajir High School: Clinched the boys’ soccer and basketball titles.
- DM Amin Girls: Won the netball and basketball titles for the girls’ category.
- Furaha Secondary School: Triumphed in boys’ volleyball.
- Senior Chief Adano Girls: Secured the girls’ volleyball crown.
Event Organization and Goals
Sporting activities comprised of football, volleyball, all athletics events, and basketball. The learners who comprised of different local schools had time to hit the pitch and showcase their talent as well as value of team work. The games were spread over a number of days, at different venues and had eventually climaxed into a breath taking final, whose turnout was quite phenomenal.
The Siyad Foundation gives immense support to sporting activities in schools by providing the trophies, medals, and kits to all the finalists, which is mean’t to motivate the participating individuals toward good sportsmanship and encouragement.
Community Impact
The event did not only reveal talent above norm but also brought the community together. Wajir High School coach Dekow Mohamed praised the event for helping students get out of their way in focusing all energies on books and instead participate in sports. Alibash Mohamed, Chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Association in Wajir East, noted the importance of participating in such activities in nurturing talent and enhancing harmony and cohesion.
Siyad Foundation’s Role
Adan Mohamed, speaking as a Siyad Foundation representative, was extremely proud to be supporting the event. Since its founding, the foundation under the patronage of Siyad Hassan, has sponsored inter-school tournaments. It also focuses on combating drug abuse and promoting social cohesion as well as preventing youth radicalization.
