Western Region KSSA Games Kick Off with Strict Eligibility Warnings

Western Region’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association games started with a warning to schools participating in the event against fielding ineligible players. In presiding over the opening ceremony held at Bungoma High School, Western Regional Director of Education Jared Obiero warned that all participants will have to be bonafide and eligible students.

“Before the start of any match, each principal of participating teams in the championship must identify learners, and no goons or villagers should interfere with the matches,” Obiero said, urging a high sense of discipline among the participants, who are not just competitors but also brothers and sisters.

The first match was attended by soccer fans, coaches, and players who assessed the competition. Obiero further warned that officials, including referees, have to abide by the rules, adding that those who break them will be banned.

“I urge all coaches and referees to ensure quality officiation as they will provide us with the best teams to represent our Western Region in the nationals,” Obiero added.

His sentiments were also echoed by TSC Director for Bungoma County, Wilson Kibor Koros. From his end, Moffat Okisai, KUPPET Executive Secretary for Busia County, asked President William Ruto to ensure that the Ministry of Education has a competent Cabinet Secretary.

Bungoma County KUPPET Executive Secretary Augustine Luketelo wants the Ministry of Education to promote those teachers whose teams have gone up to the regional competitions to enhance their morale.

During the opening soccer match, Kibabii High School managed to defeat John Osogo from Busia County 1-0. On the second day, Ebwali and Musingu High drew 0-0 in a tightly contested match at Sudi Stadium.
